Overview & result
A voice-driven control layer for macOS with a Rust core and a Tauri shell. It observes the screen through the accessibility tree and acts on it. The repository description says Jev is the fallback, not the router. The README marks the project as pre-alpha with no release yet: observation and a parity harness are done, and you have to clone and build it yourself.
From the original post
Voice-driven control layer for macOS. Jev is the fallback, not the router. Rust core, Tauri shell.
How Jev fits in the loop
- The jev-ax crate walks an app's accessibility tree into an indexed element table.
- A separate decision layer chooses what to do; it knows nothing about the screen.
- The two layers meet one level up, so each can be tested without the other.
- A parity harness checks the observation port against a pinned reference implementation.
How to reproduce
- Inspect the original showcase and source material at https://github.com/coco-research/jev-use
- Verify the bounded prompt and input candidate schema configured for Jev
- Benchmark decision latency and classification accuracy against baseline models
Why this build matters
The README is unusually explicit about what is finished and what is not, with a status table and reproducible parity checks on four apps.
Limitations
- Pre-alpha: there is no installer, notarised build or Homebrew tap.
- Per the repository description, Jev is the fallback, not the router.
- The README shows parity evidence for observation, not end-to-end task results.
