Overview & result
PlayJev is a TypeScript library for controlling websites with plain-English instructions while keeping the full Playwright API. The README's short description is "Stagehand, but with Jev making the browser decisions instead of a generative LLM". It is labelled new and experimental, and currently requires Chromium/CDP and access to the TypeSafe Jev API.
From the original post
Fast, typed browser automation powered by Jev and Playwright
How Jev fits in the loop
- You pass PlayJev an existing Playwright page and a plain-English instruction.
- It builds a model-facing snapshot of real browser nodes; internal selectors and node ids stay local.
- Jev selects a numbered node and an operation from a fixed vocabulary.
- Playwright executes it; bulk forms use one batched target-selection request and one verification.
How to reproduce
- Inspect the original showcase and source material at https://github.com/filedcom/playjev
- Verify the bounded prompt and input candidate schema configured for Jev
- Benchmark decision latency and classification accuracy against baseline models
Why this build matters
The full Playwright API stays available, and there is no silent fallback to a generative LLM.
Limitations
- The README labels it new and experimental, not production-stable.
- It currently requires Chromium/CDP and access to the TypeSafe Jev API.
- The API is still changing as it is tested against broader benchmarks.
