Filter Your X Timeline with Jev

Choose unwanted topics and let Jev judge each post.

Overview & result

Signal & Noise is an open-source Chrome extension for filtering an X timeline. Jev judges each post against the reader’s selected or custom mute categories. Extension code folds matching posts into a reason bar that can be opened again.

How Jev fits in the loop

  1. The reader selects common unwanted topics or types a custom category.
  2. The TypeSafe route sends each post to Jev as a choice between keep and the active mute categories.
  3. Extension code uses the keep probability to hide a post, caches judgments, and keeps allowed accounts visible.
  4. Readers can reveal hidden posts and record feedback locally; API failures leave posts visible.

How to reproduce

  1. Follow the repository README: enable Chrome Developer mode, choose Load unpacked and select the repository folder.
  2. Choose TypeSafe Jev in the settings page and enter your own API key; model calls incur provider charges.
  3. Select mute categories or enter your own, then open x.com.
  4. Use Show on a hidden-post bar to reveal it and give feedback.

Why this build matters

Helps readers spend less time on unwanted timeline topics while retaining a way to inspect posts hidden by mistake.

Limitations

  • Source video and public implementation reviewed; the extension was not installed or independently tested.
  • The original 18-second video is an illustrated product walkthrough with sample posts, not a recorded live X session.
  • The TypeSafe route judges post text, author handle and image alt text; it does not inspect image pixels.
  • Selected post data is sent to the chosen provider. Keys and feedback are stored locally in the browser.
  • The README and current code differ on the hiding threshold; no threshold or latency guarantee is asserted here.
